Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it,
42 saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.
43 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side,
44 and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”
Sermon Notes: Why Jesus Wept On Palm Sunday
This is the day celebrated as the day of Jesus' Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem.
I hope to build understanding of what this means to us as born-again believer and the application it implies.
It’s not easy to pair a celebratory parade with a trial and execution.
Jesus’ rode into Jerusalem that Spring morning knowing the devastating events yet to come. But as He drew closer to Jerusalem’s gates, Jesus stopped to weep.
He looked around and saw everyone’s happy faces as they cried, “Hosanna!”
His heart was filled with sorrow, knowing what they were about to endure.
This is why He came. It was His purpose.
Jesus the Lamb of God who will take away the sins of the world was about to be sacrificed. And Jesus would fulfil them all.
